What do people usually put in here, anyways?
I guess a quick introduction is in order....

[Laguna Loire]

My name is Ben; and no, I am not a machine-gun toting desperado, as depicted above (Neither is Laguna Loire, the character above from Final Fantasy VIII fame, for that matter). Rather, I am a recent graduate of Northwestern University Medical School, Class of 2000. NUMS is located in downtown Chicago right by "The Magnificent Mile." For those of you who have never visited the place, it is a really classy shopping district.

Currently, I am taking a sabbical from medicine to work as a software engineer with the Radiology Imaging Informatics Section here at NUMS. Now, for those of you wondering why in the world am I taking such a detour, let me just say that seeing the world from a different role and perspective can prove to be quite enlightening. I do love medicine, however, and will start my intership/residency next year. Destination currently unknown, but come Match Day in March we will all find out.

I spent my undergrad years at the Evanston campus of Northwestern University majoring in biomedical engineering, with a specialization in biotechnology. Some of my best memories were made during those years. Although I was more than ready to move on, nowadays I do find myself missing those "carefree" times. Well, maybe not so carefree, but it sure was a lot easier than medical school!

By the way, even though I study in Chicago, my home is actually in Los Angeles. More precisely, I lived in West Hills, which is a pretty peaceful suburb at the edge of the San Fernando Valley. It seems like nothing ever changes there, except on occasions when a major earthquake strikes. Aside from that, though, the whole place is in stasis for pretty much all the time. It's a really good place to just stretch out in the sun and sleep.
