My favorite 19th and 20th century composers:
|
...Schumann's next act was to persuade his mother to allow him to
transfer for a year to Heidelberg University. This was ostensibly to
continue his law studies amid more stimulating surroundings and 'with the most famous professors'. But
in reality it was so that he could be with an old friend, Gisbert Rosen,.
A bonus at Heidelberg was the presence of the 'famous professor' Anton
Thibaut- who also just happened to be an enthusiastic musician! Schumann
arrived in Heidelberg in May 1829 after a Rhineland holiday that
left him penniless but happy.

And here is the greatest Romantic composer of all, Frederic Chopin.
Picture to the right:
Frederic Chopin and his wife Madame Aurore Dudevant (AKA "George Sands", and early feminist and famous novelist). And no Chopin is not gay.

Yes I do like Bela Bartok. His music is very academic and challenging to analyze and to listen to.
