| Sui Shaya Japanese Restaurant | Traditional Japanese |
20625 Alves Dr., Cupertino, CA 95014 |
3/6/1/1 |
$24/person |
The food looks like real Japanese food. The price is in the
typical Japanese restaurant range. However,
the service is like typical Chinese restaurants,
the response time is like French meals,
and the taste is like British cuisine.
The highlight of my meal was the green tea ice-cream,
but that's probably bought from a local Asian supermarket.
Waitresses are ugly and speak loud Cantonese.

Home style, you can sit on the tatami.
Very nice and reminds me of home.
An old Japanese couple run the store. You can read
books, magazines comfortably. |
| O Chame' | Western Japanese |

Psuedo Japanese/Western cuisine. Modern. Unique. |
| Genki | Japanese |
1610 San Pablo Ave, Berkeley, CA 94702 |
7/9/8/8 |
$26/person |
Exquisite presentation. Great atmosphere and great
Jazz selection at night. May have tried too hard
to impress the customers. |
| Kirala | Japanese |
2100 Ward St., Berkeley, CA, 94705-1016 |
7/7/8/8 |
$23/person |
Specialty is 'robata'. I don't understand why people
wait 2-3 hours for this restaurant. Perhaps the students have
nothing better to do. |
| Benihana | Modern Japanese |
1737 Post St., San Francisco, CA, 94115-3617 |
4/8/7/4 |
$25/person |
Fun at first. Gets old quickly.
Lunch special is a must go. Dinner is a waste of time.
Most of the cooks are Mexican rookies and can't perform
jack shit. |
| Ryowa Ramen | Japanese |
859 Villa St. Mountain View, CA 650-965-8829 |
7/7/5/10 |
$7/person |
|
| Restaurant Peony | Chinese |
388 Ninth St., Oakland, CA, 94607-4287 |
7/6/6/9 |
$17/person |
Weekend dim-sum is a must go. |
| Chez Panisse | Californian |
1517 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley, CA, 94709-1598 |
9/8/8/8 |
$72/person |
Fresh, highly embellished, harmoneous.
For a Californian cuisine to have a
French-like name and French-like presentation
is overly superficial.
If Chez Panisse is a truly
Californian cuisine with a taste of Californian
culture (which is an oxymoron), then it should be
renamed to "Californian Panisse, Dude!"
Be yourself-- drop the name, drop the superficial
style of presentation... and I'll give all 10's

There are different styles of Chinese Beef Noodle.
Northern style and southern style tend to very different.
Everything between exist like the Taiwanese style (more
